AFCI has operated in a niche historically. Independent telcos (non-RBOC's) have been the customer that got them to where they are. LU has enough to worry about protecting their central office switch and getting data oriented products into their portfolio.

AFCI has the best product for building rural telecom infrastructure. It is ideally positioned for emerging market build-outs and sparsely populated US markets. This is where AFCI is getting its growth in 1998.

AFCI will release a 2000 line system this year. If they can then penetrate RBOC accounts with that product, this stock has a lot to go. Too early to tell who will win that battle. For now, the stock has upside based on current growth prospects.
