Paul, the customers will come. They will be the same folks who have been buying the PCs with AMD 233s and 266s that are on the front page of the Sunday newspaper flyers. Wait until this summer and release of Windows 98, and it will be Cyrix M II chips we see at Circuit City, Best Buy, Comp USA etc. And you know what? I will be first in line to get a lightning fast Windows 98 computer with a Cyrix M II 300+ for less than $1000.
Jeff

Paul,
A lot of people don't want to pay $600-$999 for a chip and $200+ for a BX motherboard and double the price for PC100 RAM.
Paul, I remember that YOU are using a Pentium-166.
Let's look at the regular PC hobbyist.
Is he going to upgrade to a $999 cpu, $250 mobo and $190 for 64k PC-100 RAM?
Or will he get a $200 PR333, $100 mobo and $160 RAM?

Even if a few people buy the "in 'da Cellar-wrong"...where will the re-orders be? With AMD and Cyrix with faster chips who would want one?
Hard for me to believe that INTEL actually forgot that AMD and Cyrix would bump up the speed grades and actually came in with the "in 'da cellar-wrong" at 266...I guess they actually thought that the K6 and MX would still be at 233. ANOTHER Blunder by Intel.

Another thing that some people are forgeting is that as the MX moves up in PR rating the FPU gets better because the MHz increases. At what point does the FPU become acceptable for Gamesters as it catches up?
Is 250 MHz enough, 300Mhz? At 250MHz the FPU should be faster than a K6-233 FPU and just a couple months ago that wasn't bad.

Jim

RE:"Where's the customers"

Paul,

Good products at good prices will attract customers. Cyrix offers better price/performance than Intel, and will inevitably gain market share as a result.
