Mike,

back in July of 1997, there was an article, which I can't seem to locate now, clearly stating a similar position that China was and apparently still is taking regarding competition and concerns about having just one standard. As far as I know, all the Great Wall stuff is ready to roll for the three trial cities. I don't know what is holding them up.

Business practice in China still concerns me. Zhu Rhunji is cracking down heavy on the corruption but who knows how far that will go. He already nailed the mayor of Beijing and more heads are bound to roll. I would be shocked if all companies doing business in China are not directly or indirectly involved in some scheme to "take care" of a few key individuals. This just adds an unpredictable factor. As an example, a country that does not have any anti-corruption laws would be at a tremendous advantage, if they can bribe for business in a manner that US companies cannot risk.

It is good that they held a big CDMA gala in Beijing but I would much prefer that they just show us the money.

btw, what is this Bear stuff. There is a minor league team doing pretty well in Qualcomm stadium now.

Isn't Clinton going to China in June? If so, I would expect a spate of high-profile news releases announcing big ticket contracts w/American corporations just before the trip takes place...

...and since Irwin Jacobs just visited China AND CDMA is generally though of as an American standard, June MAY prove to be interesting
for any number of reasons...?
