I feel like if INTC comes out with some downer numbers and statements the market including even the internet balloons could tank, right from the get go tomorrow.

SC, INTC is trading up in afterhours. It sounds like street likes the earnings report.

The bid must uptick in order to short. Or you can place a limit order at least 1/16th above the bid even if the bid is a downtick.

Buying 100 shares "at market" does not create an uptick, or if it does, by taking out the remaining shares on the ask, causes the "ask" to uptick, not the bid.

Comprende?

Cadet, be glad you didn't get your shorts in at the end of today. Looks like tomorrow will be another big up day after INTC reports.

<<Too bad I couldn't get in. Which brings me to a question about shorting. I know you need an uptick to short. Could I have told my broker, buy me 100 shares at the market and then using that uptick immediately sell short 1000 shares? Is this legal? If so it seems like the perfect way to get around that damn uptick rule. >>

Shorting against the box allows you to go short any time you want, the odds are you must build such a compound position in advance. More details at

I believe margin requirement at E*Trade for shorting against the box is 10%.

Kind regards,
Alex
