I don't think it is views as much as interpretations of patterns. I have been wondering if that discipline would benefit from Fourier analysis to evaluate the dominant frequency (time periods) of the waves to determine the ultimate wave character. This could be based on some parameter like a power spectral density of various frequency bands. At least then you would have quantititave rather than qualitative information from which to work. OT BTW that's the way we used to evaluate interior ballistic stability for large artillery guns in a test pit. Dave
