Process controllers could theoretically be purely software...but I doubt it. What about "other operating areas" and the power control system. Both sound hardware related.

You're correct, however, in stating that the words "embedded chips" fail to appear!

certain instructions or routines embedded in the
hardware ie. process controllers,PLC's, etc.
