songw:

<This may be news to you-... int the financial world shorts are generally considered to be the worst type of parasites.>

What financial world do you live in? In the real one, shorts provide checks and balances against speculative runups like we have seen in SIEB. It is the driving up of the stock prices by momo 'investors' such as yourself that causes widows and orphans to lose their money when the price inevitably crashes to earth. Shorts act as shock absorbers both on the way up and on the way down to cushion the loses of the people who were suckered into buying stocks at their peaks. Using your wedding ring analogy, maybe the pawnbroker is offering the couple what the ring is intrinsically worth, in which case the real sleazeball is the person who convinced them that it was worth $500 and was happy to take their money from them.

Songbird--First of all, I very rarely take a "short" position. But once in a while, when I miss a good run and see a bunch of maniacs overbuying a stock, I need to try to make some money to recoup some of the losses I sustained from when I was one of those irrational maniacs. Don't you get it? I am not a "short"--I am a trader. That's how I try to make a living. Whatever makes the money--short or long. I repeat--there is no need to be nasty just because i was right and you were wrong.
