"Microsoft vice president David Cole added his company and Macromedia are working to incorporate Flash in Microsoft's products" --Can you imagine the manifestation of such an alliance and its effect on shareprice?

From InfoBeat's Internet Daily (April 14, 1998):

More than half a dozen companies with publishing interest on the Internet applauded a move by Macromedia Inc. Tuesday to make publicly available the technology behind its Flash animation software. Macromedia said putting the file format on the Web for review enables platform vendors to provide a more attractive environment to content publishers, allows Web designers to make animation a standard element in their site designs, and helps developers deliver Flash-compatible authoring and editing tools.
Rob Glaser, chairman and CEO of RealNetworks Inc. called Flash "a true enabling technology," pointing out its design conserves bandwidth usage. Microsoft vice president David Cole added his company and Macromedia are working to incorporate Flash in Microsoft's products.

Macromedia said it will submit the format specification to an Internet standards organization, and will license the Flash player source code.
