Penni ~ In case it might appear otherwise, I think I agree with everything you said, truly, including that it is not best for minors to have consensual intercourse.

Yet I don't think of 13 as a baby; it's a young adult. Between 13 and 17, they've got to be figuring this stuff out. And they can't, usually, start at 17 and get it done.

This subject is a "hard" and tiring and obnoxious one, isn't it?
Even to agree on?

I believe we owe it to children to protect them as best we can from predators, from the pressure of their "partner", and at times from themselves.

I'm a little late getting on this topic but had to say Bravo! Penni. Once again you have said it all so well.

The system lost a valuable asset when you left it.

13 is a baby--I don't care how physically developed she is.

But do we have a double standard here? Someone I know was taken to a brothel by his uncle on his thirteenth birthday. Okay, this was in Vienna, and it was a long time ago, but he didn't seem to have suffered any horrific emotional damage as a result. (Though at the time he was terribly embarrassed, but said the whore was kind.)

Yes, there's the case of the schoolteacher and her 14 year old boyfriend. She went to jail, but it seems the kid's parents aren't all that upset, and are in fact raising the child of this rather weird union.

Why SHOULD we worry more about girls, as long as we make sure they use protection? After all, they're usually more mature than guys are, by a longshot.

(HAHAHAHAHAHA! Got 9800. Alex, you're slipping...)
