WASHINGTON, April 14 (Reuters) - The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) said Tuesday it would investigate a complaint by CIENA Corp. (NASDAQ:CIEN) alleging U.S. patent infringement on some of its technology.

The ITC said the complaint from the Maryland-based company alleges that Pirelli SpA (MILAN:PIRI) of Milan, Pirelli Cavi e Sistemi SpA of Milan and Pirelli Cables & Systems LLC of Lexington, Ky., had imported and sold telecommunications systems into the United states that infringed a patent owned by Ciena.

The technology at issue is used in providing compatibility between new and existing telecommunications equipment, the ITC said.

Nice Find Djane. I must put my vote with Henry and her sources. I do like the thought of a broader market base for CIEN. Now a well timed formal announcement would be icing on the cake.

Thanks again,
