[ indices, Ray ] Here are the two of interest, but they both really stink..... !BTK, BIOTECHNOLOGY INDEX AMEX 15 STOCKS !IXB, NASDAQ BIOTECH INDEX John and a Peter here and there can comment on the deficiencies better than I can. The real money in the next three years is going to be made by betting on the second- and third-tier companies with the good science. Now, here's the nice part..... we have biotech expertise collected here at SI that is mind-boggling. I'm not really certain how it happened, but we have both scientists (a ton of them) and non-scientists that have come together to exchange info in a very open fashion. I think that, in a way, we've been lucky that the sector has been cr*p. Only the fool-hardy (foolish and hardy or hard-headed) have stuck it out. There are about 15 other users here that would go through the sto list and pull out roughly the same companies that I do. We have immunologists, molecular geneticists, biophysicists, neurologists, biochemists..... you name it. And then we have guys who specialize in knowing both the science from a non-scientist's perspective and the industry's personalities and accounting. One other thing about biotech at SI..... lots of us are good friends. SI is a very special place for biotech. Long story, short punchline..... we could pull together ten or so users and construct a consensus list of the future's movers and shakers..... a list that is free of the BS that underwriters throw at you and a list from which most of the future Agourons will spring. If anyone who reads this thread has experience in constructing and maintaining indices, I know of a company that will pay for the copyrights or whatever it would take to protect and publicize the work.
