You are totally correct. The present value of future earnings is almost entirely driven by the discount rate used. I believe that if you are comfortable with short-term uncertainty, you can buy GSTRF and continue to hold it until many, many ,years from now. In fact, I believe that it will prove to be one of the best investments of the next 10 years. I originally got in at 20, and have been buying on the way up.
