LG, Hyundai to delay UK microchip plants

TOKYO (AFX) - The LG group and Hyundai are to delay planned microchip
projects in the UK due to a lack of funds, the BBC television news said in a
report monitored here.
According to the report, which quoted company officials, LG is unable to
raise funds for its 1.3 bln stg microchip planned for Wales, with Hyundai to
delay for a second time its chip plant planned for Scotland, which will cost
over 1 bln stg.
"Hopefully (it will start up) sometime by the end of next year," a senior
LG official was quoted as saying in the report.
"If it happens, it will be a 5 to 6 month delay. We are keeping our
fingers crossed."
Hyundai executive vice president Kyu-Ahn Lee said: "It is difficult to
raise the finance through the market. Unfortunately... we have to delay the
project".
