Sal,

>>Moreover, the "evolutionary" upgrades were always equally pricey; so I don't think complaints against Win98's price hold credence.

My upgrade from MacOS 8.0 to 8.1 does not cost anything and they have IE integration and a new file system too. It is true that historically OS upgrades are evolutionary and also shipped with development tools, source code, and a set of manuals. Also there were not 100 million platforms to bring economies-of-scale into the pricing equations on other OS systems. We are not seeing the reductions in software prices that are being seen in the hardware sectors for some strange reason. Why? Because MSFT can set the price of Windows to whatever it wants and every major OEM will just pass the bill onto us.

Cheers,

Norm

Sal, Are you still long on INTC?

Can you explain this to me?

How can INTC and SEG report lower than expected earnings and
then have both stocks appreciate in prices?
biz.yahoo.com

CPQ also came out ahead yesterday ... I bet you they report
lower than expected earnings?
