Mitsubishi Electric to Produce SRAMs in Europe in Late '98

In a break from its emphasis on 16-megabit DRAMs, Mitsubishi
Electric <TOKYO:6503> will start producing SRAMs in Europe this autumn,
aiming for production of the equivalent of 3,000 8-inch wafers
per month by next March. They will be made by Mitsubishi
semiconductor Europa in Munich, Germany, whose profits have
suffered with the worldwide glut in memories. It was recently
built with the latest wafer printing equipment; combining both
DRAMs and SRAMs will increase the monthly production from 7,000
to 8,500-10,000 wafers. The number of DRAMs will be gradually
decreased in favor of SRAMs.
