A few more SKU's

NEC has announced their Direction line of high performance personal computers featuring 350-400 MHZ PII processors. $1995 for 350's, $2299 for 400's with monitor. Each PC includes or options Iomega Zip drives.

I think we're going to see a pick up in high end box demand in the second half because of Windows 98 roll out. Sub $1000 boxes just aren't going to cut it for power users and early adopters of Win98. This should result in more zip inclusive box sales.

I noticed a pile of Zip starter kits at Computer City yesterday. Zip regular with 6 multi-colored zip disks, $199. The box graphics tied in nicely to the TV ads. Floor sales person said zip demand has slowed but they were still moving. They had lots of zip drives and a few SparQ's. Most of the inventory I saw appeared to be fresh compared with my visit a few weeks ago.

The beefed up Ad campaign is hurting now but it may be playing an important part toward getting zip up to critical mass.
