I would love to see an OS appear that would run all the MSFT apps and make him compete.

Your wait may soon be over, Bill:

Special Report -- Star Trek: The NeXT Generation?

Ask your average computer user what Apple needs to do to succeed. You'll get a few who say Apple needs to get Rhapsody out, and fast. Some will say that Apple needs to focus more on the business world. However, overwhelmingly, what you'll hear from the majority of people who use computers is that Apple needs to support the Intel platform.
While skepticism is still high here at the palatial Black Light Media towers, too many of the right people are now suggesting that Apple has successfully revived the top-secret spirit of the "Star Trek" project of the early 90's (for those who don't remember, Star Trek was Apple's effort to port System 7.0 to the Intel platform), with a whole new spin.

The rumor is deceptively simple: under the direction of Steve Jobs, developers from the original Star Trek project have been rehired, the code from the project recovered from a single hard disk locked up in a vault at Apple, and put together at an off-site location with members of the NeXT team which helped turn NeXTStep into OpenStep. The result is (reportedly) a fusion of Apple and NeXT technology which runs almost identically to the Mac OS, except for the fact that it runs on Intel hardware. The biggest news? That there is a strong chance that Steve Jobs may demonstrate a developmental version of this new OS at the Worldwide Developer's Conference.

As fantastic as this seems, it's being reinforced by word from numerous contacts in the industry -- including the source who provided us with Gossamer (PowerMac G3) specifications six months before the unit shipped, and another reliable contact who provided information on the $150 Million investment in Apple by Microsoft well before it occurred.

I think my favorite apple is the Granny Smith: nice and crisp, with a very tart flavor. Any other opinions?

Smile, everyone. It's only a stock.

Mark
