Acer Announces Support and Integration Plans for New Intel Celeron(TM) Processors

Expands Computer Solutions for Cost-Conscious Market Segments

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- As a strategic move to provide customers with an extensive range of leading PC solutions, Acer America Corporation, a member of the Acer Group, the world's third largest PC manufacturer, today announced that it will support and integrate the new Intel Celeron processors from Intel Corporation [Nasdaq:INTC - news]. The new processors will be integrated with future AcerPower(R) desktop systems to satisfy the computing requirements of cost-conscious customer segments, without sacrificing any of the capabilities of higher-powered alternatives.

''As a leading solutions provider for Education, Government and Small Business markets, Acer is committed to provide leading price/performance PC solutions at a variety of price points and configurations,'' said Greg Nakagawa, senior director of marketing at Acer America. ''By integrating Intel Celeron processors with our network ready desktops and minitowers, Acer will offer an ideal network node solution for cost-conscious customers.''

Preliminary specifications for the first AcerPower desktop systems powered by Intel Celeron processors will include the following:

Robust performance will be delivered via a 266MHz, Intel Celeron processor that provides ample processing power to run typical day-to-day business applications;
Graphics will be delivered through an integrated 4MB SGRAM AGP graphics accelerator solution, proficient at running today's intense multimedia and presentation applications;
Ethernet connectivity solutions will allow the new AcerPower systems to be mass deployed as a low total cost of ownership, thin-client solution;
A minimum of 3.5GB hard drive space will provide generous local storage;
Multimedia applications will run smoothly through a series of multimedia peripherals, including a 32X (maximum) CD-ROM drive and 16-bit stereo sound solution.
Pricing and Availability

AcerPower desktops powered by Intel Celeron processors will ship in the second quarter of 1998. Pricing is not available at press time. Models will be available throughout the U.S. and Canada through a vast array of corporate, education and government resellers. Additional third-party direct vendors will offer new AcerPower systems powered by Intel Celeron processors.
