Someone may enjoy the experience of watching their capital erode over time, slowly but surely, like a sandy river bank. That was NOT a good reason to me so I sold and moved into something that's moving in the direction I prefer (up!). ; )

I too have held 3COM for a while (about 18 months now) and have been pretty disappointed by the performance. However I continue to hold and like the 12 month prospects. The Motley Fool recently had a "dueling Fools" article about 3COM, where the pros and cons of the company were debated. The results were 50% in favor of 3COM and 30% against (the rest undecided). Lots of good information can be found there: fool.com Randy
