The consortium is known as SLDRAM (aka SyncLink). It occurred to me that perhaps AMD and/or National (or maybe Intel) might go this way for the under $1,000 PCs.

I'm just guessing that the pricing for these DRAMs might be lower than RDRAM since there's no royalties and it's not pushing the speed. If so, that could say something about the overall marketshare Rambus ultimately gets. However, it's not at all clear that SLDRAM is going to gain enough momentum to be successful although they have produced some "proof of concept" devices recently.

Since this is my first post, a couple tidbits:
I do not have a position in Rambus but expect to take one (long) by the end of the week. Also, I work for a semiconductor equipment manufacturer and have been following the Rambus technology for about two years.
