Jack,

The voice recognition software I was referring to is the kind that writes your reports. According to the manufacturers and marketers of this innovative stuff, you have but to speak into your computer and out pops a finished report as the computer program translates your spoken words into hard copy.

I am not familiar with the use of voice recognition you mention, but I would agree that a highly intuitive human assistant assistant would be preferable. There are a couple of threads here at SI which discuss voice recognition products. A while back, Dr. David Crippen's listserv discussed the use of voice recognition.

Jumping ahead in this thread to the discussion of archived Internet databases and what can be retrieved, all you have to do is enter

"any name" SI

just as I have typed it, substituting an SI poster's name for "any name," and most (if not all) of that person's SI postings will sprout forth. Usenet also is searchable by name and by e-mail address. It's amazing what can be retrieved by the various Internet search engines. Some methods exist in some databases to thwart your being archived and are worth investigating.
