Also, apparently Merrill Lynch's Thomas Kurlak said INTC
could possibly fall to $60. Perhaps DELL went down in
sympathy?

I hear this same theory every month when their stock isn't trading as they want it too. To suggest that MM's, Mutual Funds, Big investors, etc. etc. can control the price of a stock which it averages 18 million shares a day (that is $1.2 billion in dollars) is a reach. In fact last month people on the CPQ thread were saying the same thing about it being held in the 35 range. Hmmm maybe the stock is being held up until after friday....

re: Well nobody responded to my previous post, but this is my theory
about why it went down today (and will continue to do so until
Friday):

Then again LoD,
There is a lot of stock for sale @ $70.
Todays volume just was not enough to break it out.
I would venture a guess that a lot of day traders were buying it above 69 1/2 expecting a breakout.
When it did not happen, They all started selling after 3:30-3:45.
Combine that with CNBC talking about Tom K and INTC going to $60 and the buying dried up completely resulting in a quick selloff.

The reistance @70 is either from the recient peak or more likely related to expitation. Either way, the volume just was not there to get it over the hump.

Jim
BTW, If the stock breaks 70 1/2, I will probably cover and go long.
Can you believe that ? after 70-71, next stop should be high 70 or low 80's. But it has to get over that $70 mark first.

Last,
maybe the selling was because of the Debt offering. :)
Just had to get that inthere.

Dell-icious,

Options expiration is probably one reason for the volatility. Don't expect to see any major upward movement [i.e. higher than the previous high of $72] just before or after DELL's earnings announcement in mid May.

Dell-icious, I think it might be the INTC downgrade coupled with the 500 mln debt offering. Perhaps both, together, were interpreted as bad for DELL yesterday. Now, today, I think that the debt offering (now viewed as expansion of capacity), coupled (strangely enough) with AAPL's positive results, might be the driver of upward moves today.
