RWS Yes...I believe Buffet's purchase is a bearish position. But in some ways it's also like a straddle... Because there are good resons to own silver going forward....as in $1-2-3 If the world economies hold together and the Greenspan's muddle us through these floating currencies trails...the worlds economic engines should deliver remarkable advances and stay on track for another 25 years of growth. Why not....there are a tremendous numbers of emerging economies who need to grow all over the world from India to Poland. It is possible and likely...that the world could be just beginning a hudge new burst of energy that will provde enormous potential for productive growth similar to the industrial age and it burst of growth and productivity that began shortly after the introduction of electricity. The computer....may very well be the catalyst and provides the sustainable spark for that period of higher productivity. Not to far back our grandfathers did not know the difference between AC and DC current. Today there are many who do not know what Pentium 133 or 333 or Alpha chip is....? There is a new book out on the subject: "Prosperity: The Coming 20-year Boom" - by Bob Davis and David Wessel Buffet's big straddle mirrors our times...... Wonder which way the next Millenium will take us... I think we have serious problems today, that may well topple the markets and short-out the the next leg of this journey....atleast postpone it.
