Rocky Tit-Tock, Why don't you worm your way onto that new OROM thread and spin your FUD into eternity. I would be a good way for you to spend your time while waiting for steady employment. Razzle dazzle em, partner. They need a good spin doctor, and you are surely that man, boy, eh... boy, man, well whatever.

Regrets, David S.

<But I have a gut feeling that a Re-writable version will be announced soon.>

Rocky, better read the whole thing. They did announce a writer model. Sounds expensive if they are targeting businesses. Plus, the first available date is mid-1999. With a loose schedule like that, I'll worry about it later. Thanks anyway.

Q. Will Ioptics create a recordable version of the technology?

A. When Ioptics' OROM is introduced to the market the company will also offer a desktop recording system and data cards with a recordable layer. This will provide a cost-effective way for enterprises that would like to publish and distribute content on data cards in lower volumes. For example a company may need to distribute only 1,000 data cards containing parts catalogs to its field representatives every quarter. Ioptics desktop recording system and recordable data cards provide a simple, convenient way of publishing data without having to go through a replicator.

Pricing and Availability

Q. When will the first product be introduced?

A. Ioptics will have product prototypes by mid-1998, and targets initial product shipments in mid-1999.

Q. How much will OROM readers and data cards cost?

A. We expect the initial user price for the reader to be approximately $200 and $2-3 for the data cards.
