Thanks for finding them. They are initially deploying GI's DCT-1000 box(SGS Thomson). They are using GI headends(C-Cube encoders)......................................dctv.com TVN has arranged for affiliated cable operators to obtain comprehensive lease/financing packages for the modest head-end upgrade costs, as well as to acquire the consumer digital set-top boxes needed to receive DCTV service. This pales in comparison with the enormous costs required to fully convert an entire cable system to digital service which is prohibitively expensive for the small to mid-size systems, serving 25-30 million cable consumers, who are TVN's customers. Additionally, systems can be equipped to provide DCTV service in a relatively short period, allowing affiliated cable operators to timely compete with DBS and home video to retain their best and highest revenue subscribers and add new revenue streams. TVN is now conducting first beta tests of the new DCTV system, utilizing General Instrument's (G.I.) revolutionary MPEG-2 digital compression and encryption technology, and initially deploying interoperable G.I. set-top boxes. With DCTV as a "neutral"content and service provider, cable operators can obtain the digital programming and equipment they need to compete from any service and provide billing, customer service and access control provided as a third party service.. Upon completion of the first tests, TVN will roll-out DCTV service to its initial cable affiliates in the first quarter of 1998, when large volumes of interoperable digital set-tops will be rolling off the production lines.
