L.T.,
>Kurlak noted that INTC should have continuing problems based
on slower demand for high end machines and that the mkt is moving to the sub
1000 PC. Coincidently, DELL last week made a point to say that they are not
interested in the sub 1000 mkt and will be concentrating on the high end. Somebody
is wrong. <

Judging from the past two or three years Kurlak is dead wrong AGAIN (for the umpteenth time).

Ref:Kurlack:It is only timely to note that this the same guy (I belive) predicted the end of the PC a few years ago as he couldn't figure out for the life of him what the need might be for a faster and more advanced computers.

Funny Merrill Lynch, whom Kuralk works for, has still have an 'accumulate' rating for Intel based on,obviously, his prognostications being the chief technology analyst and all. Do you have any idea how to 'accumulate' something without 'buying' it??If you do let me know,would-ya????

LT,

The position that DELL will not enter the sub $1k market. IMHO, does not hold water!

The reasons as follows:

1) Technology rapidly advancing.
2) More chip integration coming.
3) Component costs dropping.

Again, IMHO, if it becomes 'profitable' for DELL to enter the sub $1K market, DELL will be there! Of course, the out the door cost for DELL will be less that for other companies due to the DELL JIT-BTO model!

Let's say that MUEI makes some headway here in the USA, what about Europe and Asia? Huge markets, and new plants for DELL!

It will be interesting to watch!

Regard,

Ken

I see you have gotten the attention of the thread with your last post. Let me point out that your argument contains a non-sequitor. Intel's production of a celeron may very well be profitable for Intel, but that does not imply profitability for companies employing the chip or entering the low cost PC market.

Similarly, a slowdown in the sale of Pentium II chips does not imply a slowdown in the sale of machines from Dell.

Jim Kelley posted the price comparison of the latest generation of Pentium II machines machines from Compaq and Dell. Dell was cheaper by about $500 from a similarly equipped Compaq. Which machine would you expect will garner greater customer interest?

Lucretius Taurus,
Hi!!! Considering you are attempting to predict a possible advance notice on the demise of Dell....and are using Tom Kurlack and "hearing and reading" about the slowdown at Dell....quoting Dell as " not being interested in the $1000 PC"....I respect your call....but, I have to add you missed the main message that Michael threw at us with that last announcement..."Don't bet against Dell."
If you were truly bullish and wanted to make money....BUY DELL

Best, Kemble
