To all: Did ML upgrade ASND today? Ascend Communications Inc. (ASND) added 3.4 percent following an upgrade from Merrill Lynch. The investment firm raised its opinion to "accumulate" from "neutral." Analyst Joe Bellace citing growth in Ascend's core business, and predicted 50 percent earnings-per-share growth in the third quarter. Bellace also raised his 1999 estimate to the range of $1.40 to $1.60 from a range of $1.35 to $1.45. Shares rose 4/8, closing at 40 1/2. cbs.marketwatch.com
