When I relate the current Intel dilemma to the SGI plan, I see an important convergence. Intel has been pushing the "capture the eyeballs" strategy for years. Now they have expensive high-end chips that are looking for a use. NT 5 seems far off, and workstations are lugging along. Seems to me that SGI offers INTC a valuable opportunity, and visa versa. I would think that if need be SGI could assemble with industry standard PC parts to stay with the screwdriver shops at the low end.
