Answer to your interesting question - the rough-cut average is 24.7, still higher than Dells margins.
3Q97 27.5
4Q97 27.8
1Q98 18.8
avg = 74.1/3 = 24.7

Now to do this right, we would need to go back to the financials and combine dollars, then work margin back out and I'm too lazy to do that on saturday morning, but I suspect it would be an even higher margin since the revenue in 1Q was lower than 3Q or 4Q. If you do the same with their profit and revenue numbers they are still pretty respectable on average. Also, if you combine CPQ and DEC 1Q98 performance you get a pretty decent number for the combined company for 1Q98, only a little lower than 1Q97. I think you are on pretty shaky ground here... CPQ has some problems but is still a powerhouse.
