I did not see a reply so let me try to answer this.

Thomas is saying that Intel said in their pre-announcement that they did not know why sales were slow. So now he is sarcastic about their statement that things will be better in the second half of 1998 even though Intel did not know why things were slow in the first place.

I'm just saying to not to take management's statements about the end of this PC slowdown as gospel, since they didn't see it coming until it hit them in the face.
