Some of the PCS cellular outfits have indicated intentions but I have not seen and end product yet. (Pacbell indicated this once but I have not seen the implementation) It looks like your best solution for now is using the laptop for receiving data via FM and the cell phone to call a broker. I will defer to someone else on laptop recommendations. I tried portable computing five years ago. I know they have improved a lot since then but I still see the same draw backs. The $ ratio is still about two to one. You will pay twice as much for the same machine, laptop vs desktop. Batteries are still a problem. I finally ended up putting desktops everywhere I need a computer and carry the information with me on GB MO disks. Of course, if you need portable computing there is no other choice.
