Tom Evans Named CEO of GeoCities; Publishing Executive to Build GeoCities into a
Leading Internet Media Company

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- GeoCities, the largest and
fastest-growing community on the Internet, today named Thomas R. Evans, president
and publisher of U.S. News & World Report and Fast Company and president of
Atlantic Monthly, to the post of chief executive officer. Evans will join the company on
May 4, 1998 and work to build GeoCities into a leading online media company.
GeoCities founder, David Bohnett, who made the announcement today and has served
as CEO since the company was launched in November 1994, will continue in his role as
chairman of the board, and develop the company's long-term growth strategy.

Evans will lead the growth of GeoCities' multiple revenue streams and solidify GeoCities
as a consumer brand. GeoCities generates revenue through advertising, premium
member services and electronic commerce partnerships. The company recently
launched GeoShops, a complete electronic commerce solution available to all
GeoCities' 1.7 million homesteaders.

''I'm thrilled to be joining GeoCities to build its brand among its many audiences
throughout the 40 special-interest communities,'' said Evans, GeoCities' new CEO. ''We
will continue to develop GeoCities, the largest and most successful community on the
Web, into a major consumer service. I look forward to working closely with the
GeoCities team and making GeoCities a valuable brand and profitable Internet media
company.''

Evans brings considerable experience in advertising sales and media management. While
president and publisher of U.S. News, Evans built the newsmagazine into a category
leader. He repositioned U.S. News and leveraged the brand to create special products,
such as the College Guide. He also launched Fast Company in 1995, which has become
one of the most innovative and fastest-growing business magazines in the industry.

''Tom brings a wealth of experience to the CEO position at GeoCities. His proven
management and leadership capabilities, as well as his extensive experience in the media
and publishing field form an ideal background to lead GeoCities as it becomes one of
the premier companies on the Internet,'' said Bohnett.

In 1985, Evans joined U.S. News, which had recently been acquired by Mort
Zuckerman. After six years as a sales executive, he became publisher in 1991. In
February 1997, Evans was named president and publisher of the organization, where he
oversees the three magazines, U.S. News, Fast Company and The Atlantic Monthly.

Russell Reynolds Associates conducted the CEO assignment on behalf of GeoCities.
