My brother-in-law has been an ECI IR for a few years and let his organization sort of go on its own for most of last year. He is a surgeon and just didn't think it was worth his time because of the rate structure and problems ECI had had in customer service. In the past few months his business has grown dramatically without his active participation. One leg is busting open - spurred by enthusiasm over new rates and commercial sales. He has started making so much money that my sister says he can no just let it drift. I'm sure that he figures if his business is doing so well without him pushing it that it will really zoom with some additional effort. Although just one small part of ECI's biz, I think that his experience is typical. Many IR's in Excel are getting more excited about the business and even many reluctant ones are seeing belated results. Nothing talks louder than dollars and that will spur a new level of growth.
