Buffalo Bob:
<<<What's the deal with buy, sell and hold ratings>>
I was pointing at the confusion resulting from Kurlaks comments
and possible 60 price for intc, vs three analysts upgrades on the same day.
Regarding a buy rating by an analyst, if he truly did a good job
he would not expect it to go much up or much down for a while.
I would dump the stock in a minute if I thought he was correct,
because I think it is very important to 'make money' before this roaring bull market turns around.

Sell ratings are very scarce, usually occur after something bad happens and the stock is already down. Again assuming he's right, sell the stock.
Attractive is just a cop-out rating, what does it mean???
Looks good to me but I wouldn't buy it ?????????

BB,

I use the HOLD position when I do not have enough information 'at hand' to decide if the stock is 'north bound' or 'south bound' - like now.

DELL is meandering, a little up, a little down! Nothing much since the split. I went to LU for a bit (split - uptick) and now back to DELL with 5% more stock. I still have DELL as a hold, but the articles that I have read (mostly here and linked to from here) indicate a bright future. Only time will tell!

Regards,

Ken

If you rate the stock a buy, you buy it.

If it's a sell, you sell it.

If it's a hold?... Are you holding it expecting it to go up, in which case shouldn't you be buying?

There is rarely a sell recommendation from analysts, downgrading a stock from buy to hold is Wall Street's speak of sell.
