3DFX's biggest ace in the hole used to be performance and picture quality. As competitors are improving their products, the focus is changing to brand name recognition and compatibility.

Regardless, I think people are grasping at straws when they cite sources like www.matroxusers.com or quote articles comparing SHIPPING products like the VooDoo2 to vapor.

There were SUPPOSED to be all manner of threats to 3DFX in 1997 and some darn good cards actually shipped. Did any of them make a big dent in VooDoo I sales? I think tomorrow we will see that the answer is a resounding no. Gaming rags like to stir the pot but at the stores where it counts people are all buying VooDoo.
