Standard & Poor's changes MidCap, SmallCap indices

NEW YORK, April 16 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor's said Thursday it was making changes to its
S&P MidCap 400 and SmallCap 600 indices due to a series of mergers.

The rating agency said in a statement it was going to remove WPL Holdings Inc. (WPH - news)
from the MidCap 400 and Interstate Power Co (IPW - news) from the SmallCap 600 following
their merger with IES Industries Inc. (IES - news).

In their place, it will add Interstate Energy Corp. to the MidCap, it said.

Interstate, which has yet to be assigned a ticker symbol, is the company that was born out of the
merger of the three companies, it added.

On April 15, the planned merger was approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The
deal was first announced in November 1995.

The agency said it will do the changes after the close of trading in April 20.

Graco Inc (GGG - news) will replace Interstate Power on the SmallCap, it said.

Standard & Poor's also said it will replace Continental Homes Holdings Corp. (CON - news) with
Analogic Corp. (ALOG - news) on the SmallCap index after the close of trading on April 20.

On April 13, Continental and D.R. Horton Inc. (DHI - news) set the exchange ratio for their
merger.

The agency said Harbinger Corp. (HRBC - news) will take the place of ACC Corp. (ACCC -
news) on the SmallCap index after the close of trading on April 21.

ACC is being acquired by Teleport Communications Group (TCGI - news).
