Yes, Leo was very interested in the camera obscura, did lots of experiments with it. He also tried to make a serious study of optics. But this has nothing to do with the Shroud of Turin.

As far as pigments, grounds, and glazes are concerned, he experimented with a great many different techniques, often disastrously.
