A couple of thoughts on Trimble's 1999 expectations . . . .

We recently saw a statement by the CFO that Trimble's goal for 1999 was $1.50 EPS. With this announcement of 35% more capacity coming on line, and a running rate of about $300 million in revenues presently, it looks like the Trimble 1999 goals are revenues of about $405 million and profits of about $1.50 per share. The stock price would go up nicely at those levels, too.

Revenues were slightly over my expectations for the quarter. Earnings were lower than my expectations primarily due to higher than expected R&D.

Given the literally limitless opportunities in GPS, I am not surprised that Trimble is reinvesting the profits in R&D.
