I thought the Q2 was 1.6B and the Q1 was 1.8B. I agree more boxes sold as the G3 and new OS spurred upgrades. That path is now filled and the summer is upon us. It will take careful forecasting to make a profit this quarter. Order too many parts and they will eat the profts when box sales do not meet expectations.
The Wintel market will have a metdown this summer with prices falling by another 25% or more due to market saturation at all levels. Dell, Compaq will get hit. Gateway will be toast(IMO) as they are weak already.

The press is recognition of earnings after a long dry period. Some Kudos to Jobs that will sell papers/buy eyes.

The critical time is the fall student/school/consumer period. Jobs should be girding for that.

Bill

Education hasn't abandoned AAPL. I'm a professor at a small (read: VERY limited budgets) college in Kansas and refurbished our art dept's Mac lab with 9 9600s last summer and we're planning to update some of our tutoring center's PCs to Macs this summer. I also have put in for more Macs for my physics class lab.

BTW: My apple tree started blooming this past weekend - now my AAPL stock is blooming. Sure is purty!

A gentleman farmer,
