They cannot use stock for a purchase of a company for two years after they repurchase their own stock. They would not be able to take advantage of the pooling of interests breaks if they did. If they are moving into acquisition mode don't look for a stock buyback. If you see a stock buyback, don't expect any acquisitions unless they are going to use cash.

Greg, good idea. We (the thread) came up with the same idea last year when the stock hit 15 (before the run to 28).

PairGain responded and said it had no plans to buy stock. It then bought Avidia!

I think an acquisition is imminent.
