Len As you said: Every single tax law on the books was drafted and passed by our House and Senate politicos, and passed into law by the President's signature. And the majority of those laws have their genesis in the special interest lobbyists that have an agenda to benefit their clients. Indeed, the laws are often actually drafted (written) by the lobbyists, and sometimes pass through the labyrinth unchanged.

And that's THE WHOLE PROBLEM HERE!!

The Special Interests and Social Engineering are at the ROOT of the problem.

The NONCENSE being discussed in recent years of a "flat tax" or a "consumption tax" are meant to obfuscate the REAL issues. To redirect us AWAY from the Congress - and down blind alleys.

CONGRESS Spends most of its time doing SOCIAL ENGINEERING
and they have but three choices:

1) Spending Money for new bureaucracies
2) Passing new laws to require citizens to do "what's good"
3) Making TAX incentives and disincentives to encourage
or discourage certain behaviors

Whether there is a "Flat Tax" or not whether there is a "Consumption Tax" or not will NOT effect these THREE OPTIONS available to Congress.

IMO, if people do not UNDERSTAND THIS FIRST, they can not rationally look at the tax proposals and see which one "is best".
