A slightly different presentation of these very outstanding results would have sent the stock soaring today. It would seem the company wanted to drive the stock down, perhaps to facilitate insider buys (?)

Perhaps, though I think more likely they wanted to keep expectations modest particularly given the uncertainties around oil prices. They are a pretty conservative bunch and are more likely concerned with having expectations too high to meet than with manipulating the stock.
On the other hand a number of the insiders have made open market purchases around these levels. We'll have to wait and see if they buy more.
