Visio Professional 5.0 was chosen for its visual modeling capabilities as well as its ability to greatly enhance the productivity of software developers." This means that Visio is trying to get to the low-end CASE tool market. Visio Professional costs a couple of hundred dollars in comparison to a couple of thousand dollars for CASE tools such as those from Rational, Platinum or Select. Even though Visio doesn't have the more advanced functionality such as code generation etc there is a big interest for "cheap" visual modeling tools that support things such as the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Probably this is just the beginning and Visio should be able to get a special product for the software and database design market. As a drawing tool Visio is superior to the case tools and they have a big advantage with their low cost. /Hans-Erik
