RE: LOR DTH idea

I think this could be a big market, bigger than the current (And mature) transponder leasing market. In the LORAL annual report, he says they plan to focus on value added services where they can get more per transponder than they would get if they just leased the transponder. He also says (paraphrased) "while globalstar covers the world with telephone service, there are far more people who have TVs than telephones right now."

A lot of the world does not have access to cable TV. DTH television has been a huge success in the US and many of us have access to cable TV. Imagine if there was a DTH service that covered say, asia, and was split into 5 segments of channels each with a different language. All those people out there who are relatively poor and get little television, would be able to go out and buy, for about the cost of another TV, a dish and recieve high quality service at their home, in their language, even though they are very remote.

If the DirecTV, echostar and primestar services prove the model for the US, imagine what could be done in regions where cable isn't even an option? (Of course, you'd be selling them fewer channels, and therefore could spread your cost among many markets with different language requirements serviced by a single sat, and at the same time lowering the cost to an individual subscriber.)
