Dear Tom : I guess today is a good day to talk about some of the basics of investing; at least that is the direction that God had me going in when I got up this morning at 5:09 am. It really seemed that God was wanting me to get some of this out in the open. Basically my approach is value analysis also. I have been doing it so long that many things just come to me, it is hard to explain. I pay close attention to the outstanding shares of all the stocks I follow, the annual sales, current share price. With these basics I know the market cap to sales ratio; which I really get nervous if I am buying over a ratio of 2 or 3. I try to find them under 1 if possible; have bought at 1/4 or less before. With shareholder equity I try to find price to book less than 1.5 but have bought 2 or 3 times and sold 5 and 6 times book. I always boil the debt down to debt per share to see if the company can service the debt, the same with cash per share. For example I own some TGH. they have 32 dollars per share in cash and marketable securities and t bills and a book around 23. They sell for 30 a share. I look at the cash on hand and I at least try to pick companies that are trading at intermediate lows ( six months or less ) My parameters are very stringent so I usually cannot follow more than 5 to 7 at a time, or don't want to. If I have an uneasy feeling I usually start praying and ask the Lord to get me out of the situation but all in all, I am mostly in cash right now 70 % so I have been sleeping well. If someone cannot sleep at night that is one of the best yardsticks you can use. Your lack of peace is telling you to get out of risk's way, the Holy Ghost is speaking, listen for your own peace of mind. After all the Holy Spirit dwells within us, when we are not at peace it affects Him also, by way of the fact He experiences our discomfort. After all through Christ and the New Covenant God has found a permanent dwelling place in our hearts for all eternity. The least we can do is be a willing host or hostess to HIM and listen when he speaks; this is God we are speaking of , amen. In Christ.gregor
