Well, Penni, I have not known exactly what I was discussing for several months, except that I am sure I believe every word!! ;^) I am sure people reading some of my posts are even more confused than I am. But I am sure having fun talking, anyway. Hooray to the unadulterated joy of words, or something.

I cannot think of much more to say about Mary Le Tourneau, except that I generally don't think nonviolent criminals should be in prison. Other western industrial societies seem to use more creative ways to rehabilitate and punish them at the same time, like community service, ankle bracelet monitoring, and fines. But the young man in question definitely should be protected from her. Even if his parents originally thought he was safe because she was a teacher--and who would not have--certainly they were not prudent in supervising their child once she was released on parole.

I think you have opened a bigger can of worms than Le Tourneau ever will be, however. Jerry Seinfeld is pondscum? Oh, boy!!!

Do you think his parents might have thought he was safe because he was with an adult teacher?

The mother's culture approves of the behavior. That was one of the problems, he had encouragement from his mother.

This made it all the easier for Mary to take advantage of the situation. Sure she new what the law was, but (I think) it was all the more easier for her to rationalize the law's lack of relevance when seen against the backdrop of life beyond these United States. Other cultures just don't live by our standards.

That doesn't mean I support Mary's choice though. Just thought I would toss this into the mix, even if its late getting there.
