That is true for today, but Visio only recently released IntelliCad98 which is a CAD drawing program fully compatible with the AutoCad file format -- at a tenth of the price of AutoCad. And UML will shortly have it's standardized file format as well, open for anyone to use. Visio only in February bought InfoModelers which is a company that produces and sells...visual modeling CASE tools for database design! So their business model is to use their excellent "smart" drawing technology and then to extend it to new markets such as the CAD market or the CASE tool market -- they don't have to be better than the established suppliers, they just have to do it "good enough" at a tenth of the price for the customer.

Being a holder of RATL stock, I don't like it.
