OEM

You still don't get it. OEM Zip inclusion only leads to reduced disc tie ratios. And this is where the money is made. The object of this whole game is not to push Zips out the door, but to make money doing it. OEM drives are sold at virtually no profit, or even at a loss. And OEM drives have very poor disc tie ratios. Nothing Iomega has tried to do has changed this.

Retail sales are flagging badly, which reflects a saturated market. Looking forward, Disc tie ratios will only drop further with the increased OEM shipments. And more money will be lost. OEM inclusion is good, but no retail strength weighs the balance down much more.

Of course, this ignores any other bad news like Sony. I still hold that retail Zip sales will be cut 50% within 3 months after Sony HiFi ships.
