Wall Data Reports First Quarter Results

Cyberprise Products Delivered to Customers in Key Industry Segments

KIRKLAND, Washington--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 16, 1998--Wall Data Incorporated (NASDAQ:WALL - news)
today reported results for the first quarter ended March 31, 1998. Net revenues for the first quarter were $31.9 million. In the
prior year first quarter, net revenues were $37.0 million, and included a single sale to an existing end-user customer that
contributed more than $8 million in revenue. Net income during the period was $0.6 million, or $0.06 per share, compared with
$3.5 million, or $0.35 per share, during the first quarter of 1997. Cash and cash equivalents at the close of the first quarter
totaled $61.0 million, down from $70.8 million at the close of the fourth quarter, as a result of the $11.0 million cash acquisition
of First Service during the period.

''While remaining profitable, we continued to build momentum for our Cyberprise(TM) strategy with the release of the
Cyberprise Server, Cyberprise Host, Cyberprise Data and Cyberprise Tools product categories,'' said John Wall, Wall Data's
Chief Executive Officer. ''In our 15 years of delivering enterprise products, we have built a strong reputation for delivering
mission-critical solutions to global companies in a wide range of industries. We are pleased that customers in three of these key
industry segments - banking, insurance and healthcare - selected Cyberprise products to Web-power their enterprises.''

In January 1998, the company announced its Cyberprise strategy: to enable companies to move existing mission-critical
systems and public information to the Web platform and extend those systems to remote users, vendors and customers. The
first of the Cyberprise products supporting this strategy were released during the first quarter, and several additional products
are currently in beta and will be announced during the next few months.

The Cyberprise Web server platform received support from Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Netscape, Novell,
Health+Cast and Polaris Communications, Inc. These companies have announced support for enabling our shared customers to
realize new and powerful Internet-driven business opportunities.
Recognition to date has also included an Editor's Choice
award from the Visual Basic Programmers Journal, as well as positive feedback from our customers and industry analysts.

In March 1998, Wall Data announced the acquisition of First Service, a German distribution company and long-time partner of
Wall Data. Germany represents the largest IT market in Europe, and First Service brings an experienced, motivated team that
will provide the foundation for the company's sales and service operations in this important geography.

''This quarter we have taken important first steps in our transition from a connectivity company to an Internet company. I am
also pleased to have strengthened our senior management team with the promotion of Barry Horn to the position of Vice
President of Worldwide Sales, and the addition of Jim Robb as Vice President of North American Sales and Rick Fox as Chief
Financial Officer. I believe these seasoned executives will each contribute significantly to the company,'' concluded John Wall.

Wall Data - The Power of the Cyberprise(TM) - is the enterprise software company with a 15-year history of extending
corporate computing systems to users on new platforms and providing outstanding business solutions to customers worldwide.
