<<New orders and design wins for ICs used in advanced digital consumer products were a significant feature of the new business
generated during the quarter. SGS-THOMSON started shipping new MPEG decoder ICs, which combine graphics features,
for set-top boxes and received numerous orders for power supply, memory and other ICs for this application. During the
quarter, the Company's HDTV MPEG2 decoder IC was demonstrated in a number of customer prototypes at industry events
such as the Consumer Electronics Show and the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference. The HDTV MPEG2 decoder,
which was developed in conjunction with Thomson Multimedia, was launched on April 14, 1998. Another MPEG2 decoder
has been selected by a number of consumer electronics companies for use in DVD players. >>
